Delhi Police is alerting you about this new scam





The Delhi Police Cybercrime division is alerting WhatsApp users to be careful about a new type of scam which involves hijacking of WhatsApp accounts. The scam involves taking over someone’s WhatsApp account so that it can be used to communicate with friends and family members of the victim in order to carry out financial transactions. Delhi Police in a series of tweets said that the fraudsters simply aim to lock out users by using WhatsApp’s two-factor authentication. Here is everything you must know about this..



Hackers trick users with official WhatsApp logo as display picture

In a series of tweets, the Delhi Police Cybercrime unit stated that the hacker creates a fake account and puts official WhatsApp logo as display picture posing to be the account of WhatsApp technical team. Then the hacker messages the user to share the six-digit verification PIN for verifying their identity.
As the text message appears to be from WhatsApp technical team due to official logo as the display picture, the target easily gets tricked and shares the six-digit verification PIN. The hackers use the information to log into the target’s WhatsApp account from their device.
